About Buena Vista University

Buena Vista University, or BVU for short, is a private 4-year college located in Storm Lake, which is a city in the US state of Iowa, serving as the county seat of Buena Vista County, with a population of over 10 000 inhabitants, estimated during the 2000 census.

Buena Vista University was established in 1891 and it is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. It gained accreditation in 1952 and awarded its first graduate degree in 1995, at which time it became known under its current name.

BVU offers its students, who presently number around 1200, classes in 42 major areas of study, within 5 schools (each administrated by a dean), which are: The Harold Walter Siebens School of Business, The School of Communication & Arts, The School of Education & Exercise Science, The School of Science and The School of Social Science, Philosophy & Religion.

Athletics

Buena Vista's sports teams are known as the Beavers and they compete in 19 intercollegiate sports, at the varsity level, in NCAA Division III. Their distinctive colors are navy blue and gold.
